York Region’s neighbourhoods are vibrant and ever changing, reshaped by rapid population growth, increasing cultural and ethnic diversity and an aging demographic.
Much is said about the pace of growth. United Way of York Region’s strength is looking behind the hard statistics to assess the social impact, the face of growth.
United Way of York Region builds strong partnerships with community leaders, business, labour and government, allowing us to target critical social issues affecting quality of life.
WE RAISE MONEY
United Way of York Region has a trusted 30 year history of efficient, responsible and accountable stewardship of donor support. We are striving to raise a record $9 million in 2007.
WE DISTRIBUTE MONEY
Based on our most recent community planning assessment, United Way of York Region’s Community Fund supports five priority areas:
- Supporting those who have mental health challenges;
- Providing services for newcomers and immigrants;
- Addressing domestic violence and abuse;
- Tackling issues of affordable housing and homelessness; and
- Promoting literacy.
WE PROVIDE LEADERSHIP
Perhaps harder to measure than the raising and distribution of funding, but critical to sustaining strong neighbourhoods, we act as a catalyst and host of collaborations with community partners to advocate for positive social change. Equally important, we are committed to enhancing the organizational and governance capacity of non-profit agencies serving York Region.
One donation supports 39 local agencies delivering almost 100 programs in 9 municipalities in York Region. That is remarkable impact!
